Last Orders is a coming of age dark comedic dystopian short film about grief, sisterhood, and the erasure of trans rights.

"My name is Adam Ali (they/them). I'm a North West-based filmmaker in my second year at Manchester Metropolitan University. My last short, BABA, won the Iris Prize and explored the complexity of being queer and Muslim.

I created this fundraiser for my new short, Last Orders, a student film that will be shot and made in Manchester with a majority queer and trans cast and crew, many of whom are also students at my film school.

I want to make Last Orders because trans stories—our joy, our grief, our resilience—are more urgent than ever. In a world that seeks to erase us, this film stands as an act of defiance, a love letter to trans sisterhood, and a raw exploration of grief in the face of political and personal collapse. It’s about the communities we build when the world turns against us, about chosen family and the messy, beautiful ways we keep each other alive.

At a time when trans rights are under attack, representation isn’t just about visibility—it’s about survival. This film will capture the rage, the euphoria, the heartbreak, and the unbreakable spirit of trans people fighting to exist, together."

Last Orders is a darkly comedic political dystopian short film exploring grief, trans sisterhood, and defiance in the face of devastation. As their rights face being stripped away from them. Joy and Nour—two inseparable best friends—find themselves clinging to the only thing that’s ever truly mattered: each other. Grieving the life they’ve built and the family they’ve chosen, they embark on a journey through a collapsing world, where every step forward is an act of rebellion. Against the backdrop of violence and uncertainty, their bond is tested, their love redefined, and their resilience unshaken. If the world is ending, they’ll go out the way they lived—dancing, laughing, and refusing to disappear.
