Streets to Kitchen: Chapter 2!
October 2019

Hello!
Last year you generously donated to the Streets to Kitchen project and helped us to raise over £10,000 to kick-start a year-long cookery course for people affected by homelessness in Bristol.
The good news is that the first year of the Streets to Kitchen course continues to go from strength to strength. Each week, a small group of clients is welcomed to the St. Mungo's Recovery College kitchen to socialise, share and be inspired with healthy, affordable recipes, gaining skills and confidence as they go.
In fact, the course has been so successful that everyone involved - Better Food, St. Mungo's and Square Food Foundation who deliver the course - are determined to see it continue! Better Food is committing to raise more money, term by term, because we've seen that there's more work to be done with existing clients, more clients coming forward to take part, and more possibilities for the future of the classes than ever imagined.
And it seems that the clients agree! You can read course updates here, and here are just a few of our favourite bits of feedback from the classes so far:
“I like the way we do things together, even clearing up! It’s like a little family and that means a lot to me.”
“I’ve lost all my confidence but I can be in charge of cooking the rice, and it’s a privilege to share my culture with you.”
“I feel better than I did this morning, because I’m here. Being here has improved my headspace”
“My experience at the class has been exemplary, it has benefited me in ways I would not have imagined, self-improvement, team-work, happiness and achievement. I am so very grateful to both the facilitators of the group and to all St. Mungo’s staff for being so welcoming and hospitable with such great sense of humour!”
“Those flapjacks were life-changing!”
Thank you for making this happen.
It's this sort of encouragement that has inspired us to reboot the fundraising campaign for Streets to Kitchen. We honestly couldn't have done it without your support. As we go into our second year, please help us spread the word so we can keep the project on the road and help more people learn new skills, make new friends and find confidence through food.
