What is the Bath Theatre Photography project?
For the last two years I have been working with various theatre companies across Bath documenting what the audience never sees. The raw talent, dedication and hard work that goes on behind the scenes. The project focused on not just the performers but also the truly hidden - the stage hands, the technicians, the make up artists, the costumiers.
How much access were you given?
Almost complete. The classic access all areas. From the auditions and the rehearsals to the show week itself I shadowed each group - in the rehearsal rooms and dressing rooms, corridors and wings. I quietly let my camera capture the reality of behind the scenes in the modern theatre. Nothing staged and nothing posed.
Who was involved?
For a city of it's size, Bath has an amazing number of theatres and theatre groups along with a seemingly endless stream of talented people of all ages. The productions I worked on ranged from the traditional musical theatre of West Side Story at the Theatre Royal Bath to more edgy shows at smaller theatres such as Spring Awakening at the Rondo. And the groups I worked with ranged from the long established traditional societies to newly formed more cutting edge companies.
So why a Fundsurfer campaign?
Having got to a point where the project started to feel complete, I realised that the final step had to be an exhibition of the images both to let the audience see what goes into getting a performance in front of them and as a reward to everyone involved. So this Fundsurfer project is simply designed to achieve this by raising the funds to make the exhibition a reality.
What is the target?
£1500
What will the money be used for?
To pay for the high quality production of the prints themselves so they can be displayed in the best possible way.
If the target is exceeded what will the extra funds be used for?
Any excess (depending on the amount) will be used for further enhancements of the images, framing for example, publicity costs and to produce a book of the exhibition.
What rewards will be on offer?
Rewards include a mixture of prints from the exhibition and photoshoots See the Rewards tab for details.
Who will be able to go to the exhibition?
Everyone and anyone who wants to come!
And finally...... about me
I am a documentary photography specialising in natural photography using available light. I aim to show people as they really are and situations as they really happen. The Bath Theatre Photography Project brought all of this together perfectly and it would be fantastic if you could contribute any amount to help get the images on display for everyone to see.
I live in Portishead, Somerset with my wife, 3 children and 2 tortoises. When not doing family stuff you will usually find me camera in hand. My next project will be based in Bristol showing the city as it really is.
