Free skateboarding and art event in Cardiff

WHY.

We are bringing an event to Cardiff where two cultures collide. You’ll have the chance to uncover and support up-and-coming talent in both the skateboarding and art communities.

WHO.

Idea is a skater owned, company of friends. We aim to provide the skate community with original gear by collaborating with local artists to produce unique decks and clothing.

We believe in putting out high quality, fairly priced products. We are Rob, Jack, Will, Maxwell, Joey, Chez, Osgar and Billy. Idea started from a group of friends with a common love for skateboarding and art. In September 2013 we started fidding around with paint and skateboards. After talking to friends and speading the word about creating a company we realsied how much talent there is out there just waiting for an opportunity. So we decided to set up something different. A company for skaters, by skaters. This is our Idea.

WHAT.

We need you to pledge to support our first big event!

We want to showcase all the talent that we have worked with so far, and bring new supporters into our growing community. The plan is to run a day long event at Spit & Sawdust, a social enterprise skatepark in Cardiff, exhibiting our designs, the artists we have worked with, our skaters and auctioning off some unique hand painted decks! There will be music provided by Squared Roots with food and drink fresh from the Spit & Sawdust kitchen.  To top off all this we will have a number of Bristol and Cardiff's finest graffiti artists painting 120ft of wall.

But we can only do this with your support. We need £1500 to run this thing. We need get all our artists, skaters and collaborators down from accross the UK and put on a day of skateboarding, art and music that you wont forget! If you like what we do or just want to see this happen please pledge your support - and claim your idea gear as a reward for helping us make this happen!

REWARDS.

All our rewards are unique to this event, you can’t get them anywhere else. This is a pick of our personal favourites and what you can do with them.

Digital Pack. The pack includes some stuff for you to use and share with mates: pdfs of our posters, an Idea lightbulb stencil, and a board outline for you to work out designing your own deck. It’s the first time we’ve shared digital content like this and we want to see what you do with it! Share it back with us, photograph your stencils, send us your designs and set your background to the poster. Be part of the Idea and spread the word.

Signed-Hand Drawn Sketches and Stickers. This is your chance to get your hands on a one-off sketch by one of our resident illustrators. Maxwell and Chez have been scribbling away for a while now so we this is like a lucky dip of unique sketches! With your personal sketch, you will also get some stickers to keep you slapping!

One Idea Event T shirt. This T-shirt is a one off for the One Idea event. Wear your One Idea garms proudly on the day of the event or just own this unique T-shirt to show off whenever. First event and first unique T for all our first supporters. The mock ups of our T's are in the pipeline at the moment, so keep your eyes peeled for the release of the final design.

Personalized deck. This is a really sweet reward for skaters and art enthusiasts alike: an opportunity to work alongside one of our artists to create a personalised deck with a unique design just for you. Bring your own taste and ideas to the table and own an Idea board with your own one off design.

Graffiti Commission. This reward offers you the opportunity to commission one of the Idea crew to paint a mural of whatever you want, wherever you want (along as you own it).  Unfortunately, we won’t be able to travel to the other side of the country but we can always paint on a moveable surface for you to collect and move at your own will!

BIG LOVE!!

Lewis Brillet

I am currently studying for a photography degree at UWE in Bristol. I enjoy photography and film as a medium because it allows me to express different ideas. Photography is a way of capturing things, bringing my own perspective and personal meaning to it.

I got involved with Idea skateboards because I knew Rob when I first moved down to Bristol. I met the rest of the guys behind Idea and naturally I wanted to help with any of the photography. I have skateboarded for a long time and really wanted to be involved someway with a new upcoming skate brand. By chance a project brief I was set corresponded with the arrival of the new Idea products, so I shot some pictures of the t-shirts and skateboards in the studio. I gained more experience in the studio and at the same time they seemed pleased with the pictures as they used them for the website. I look forward to working more with the guys and hope to shoot more with the skate team in the future.

Grizly pearz

A twenty one year old freelance “you name it” designer currently working in Bristol. My work certainly has some grizzly elements to it and I generally aim to tackle social issues in most of my pieces. I’m against using arty jargon to make my work sound more interesting, so I will keep this sweet. Art is what it is to the viewer, you. You make your own decisions on what you see. My ego shouldn’t come into it. Enough of it is in my art already. Idea skateboards have been great to work with from the start and I’m very lucky to be able to carry on working with the team. The exhibitions and things we have planned for the future are certainly something to watch out for. A down to earth art collective with a warm heart wanting to promote up and coming artists in a new way. What’s not to like?

The Venue:

Spit and Sawdust is is bang on what we are about. A community space of skateboarding, art and great food amd drink! The park is loaded with street based obstacles such as banks, blocks, hip, a handrail, and a bank to wall. They have 4ft high, 19ft wide birch covered mini-ramp and a double quarter to vert wall. Check out the art space, skatepark and get excited.

Why we need your support

This event means a lot to us. It is the opportunity to be able to communicate what we are really about, to celebrate it and grow a community of like minded people. We want to people to meet our artists and skaters, to get involved and chat to us, to tell us what they want to see, and to discover a brand that works for them.

What happens if we don’t reach our target:

This is an ALL OR NOTHING campaign, so if we don’t reach the target we won’t be able to run the event.

We don’t have the cash right now and we know it will cost us around £1500 to make it an event worth coming to. This will go towards transporting all our artists and collaborators, bringing along an exciting line up of musicians brought to you from Squared Roots, getting in the sound system and transporting gear.

We are very passionate about making this happen and this crowdfunding campaign is our one shot. We will put all our effort into marketing and promoting to get the pledges we need!

Remember, no matter what happens, everyone will get their rewards for pledging. We really appreciate your support!

In kind support…

If you want to get involved with in-kind support and keep your wallet closed that’s also cool. We are looking for...
