Bristol Pound needs your help!
The Bristol Pound currency is seven years old. It is the most successful currency in the UK, with the highest number of both individual and business members, and with the largest number and value of transactions every year.
But we recognise that in the 7 years since its conception that finance and technology have leapt forward and we need to adapt to keep delivering for our members, to bring more individuals and businesses into the eco-system and to keep growing its positive impact in the city.
So we want your help. We are seeking to raise £20,000. This will ensure that we can carry on providing our local currency, and help us fund the development of new services and technology so that we can grow the scheme and deliver more impact in Bristol.
Bristol Pound is a non-profit organisation, seeking to tilt Bristol’s economy to be greener, fairer and stronger. By encouraging people and businesses to buy locally, we are helping to reduce carbon emissions from transport, and supporting the creation of a circular economy, to minimise both resource use and the production of landfill waste. Meanwhile, by encouraging people and businesses to support independent Bristol businesses, we are helping to create a flourishing small business community, where the jobs created to reflect the diversity of the local community. And by supporting a diverse, home-grown economy, we are helping to protect Bristol from the impact of shifts in the global economy.
Using £B is easy! You can buy the paper £Bs from our exchange points, and find out where you can spend them on our website. Or you can open a £B account with the Bristol Credit Union, and use our phone app to pay for things electronically - the app has a handy map showing you all the £B businesses, and you can top up your £B account from your normal online banking. You can also set up recurring payments for your Bristol City Council tax, and encourage the council to support local businesses too.
